Behind The Brand: Meet Joanne & Rachel of BY ELLEVEN

Our team at Generous have interviewed one of our popular brands, BY ELLEVEN

This Behind The Brand series takes a deep dive into their ethos and their love for slow fashion.

What was the inspiration behind By Elleven?

By Elleven was inspired by our mutual love of Scandi / Nordic Street Style and Street wear Fashion, we wanted to create a sustainable collection that included influences from both, logo's, oversized silhouettes, a sharp casual aesthetic.

What is the ethos behind By Elleven?

We are a slow fashion brand, we want to normalise the wearing of your clothes over and over again, fast fashion is not only a business but a mindset we have come to accept, constant newness isn't necessary or sustainable, By Elleven use premium Organic Cotton and our applications, both embroidery and prints are of the highest quality and looked after, will look great wear after wear.

How do you want By Elleven to make customers feel?

We design the collection with our own busy lifestyles in mind, we want our customers to reach for their By Elleven pieces and instantly feel like their outfits look pulled together without huge effort, we really thought about the colour palette, great neutrals but with interesting logo details, they are wardrobe essentials but they are never boring.

How do you practice sustainability in your own life?

We are advocates for slow fashion in our own life we repeat wear everything and keep things interesting with clever styling, all the clothes we wear on our Instagram belong to us (except the vintage) we are living proof the clothes wear well as we have had the same track pants since we launched in 2020!

We also both believe in small things add up, we avoid single use plastics, a filter tap at home stopped the need for bottled water, we use glass and refill options when doing household shopping and look for compostable options, we recycle everything than can be, we hate waste so we try and be as creative as possible with food.

What is your idea of a perfect Saturday?

The perfect Saturday would start with the perfect brunch, Liverpool is brimming with great places, we would head to the Baltic Triangle and go to Yamama or Coffee & Fandisha, then from there maybe a walk along the River, we love to wander around the Albert Dock especially when it's a sunny, then later on head to Duke Street Market as its dog friendly, loads of food options and has a great wine list.
